Grease and dry ductwork across Cardiff

Cardiff runs a great deal of ductwork the capital never sees. The restaurants of Cardiff Bay and Mermaid Quay, the international kitchens of City Road in Roath, and the bars of St Mary Street and Mill Lane push grease-laden air up through kitchen extract; the offices of the centre, the hospitals and the university buildings depend on dry supply and extract air-handling; and the hotels and launderettes run laundry ducting that packs with lint.

Behind a great share of those kitchens sits an extract system a canopy wipe never touches. Cardiff falls under Cardiff Council, whose remit takes in 3,333 rated premises across the city - and grease ductwork is a fire matter as much as a hygiene one. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person has to keep it clean to a standard a certificate can show, whether the run climbs out of a Cardiff Bay kitchen or a Leckwith unit.

We clean and certify the whole system - grease, dry and laundry - right across Cardiff: from Cardiff Bay and the Hayes to City Road, St Mary Street and the Leckwith trade parks. We survey the full route, fit compliant access where a sealed run has none, and clean every internal metre back to bare metal.

TR19 Grease, and the parts a Cardiff canopy clean misses

TR19 Grease is the benchmark insurers and fire risk assessors expect for kitchen extract systems. It covers the whole system, measured, not just the parts you can see. Grease is assessed by thickness, and the standard sets the level at which a system must be cleaned and re-tested.

Across Cardiff we work to that one standard, whether the run climbs out of a busy restaurant kitchen or a care-home laundry.

  • Full run cleaned canopy to fan, including the concealed sections
  • Compliant access panels fitted where a sealed run has none
  • Before-and-after grease-depth readings at set points
  • Dated certificate, photographs and an access report for your logbook

Three kinds of ductwork, three kinds of risk

01 / The real risk

Grease-laden extract

The extract off a cookline lines itself with combustible grease the whole way to the fan, and it is the concealed length, not the canopy, a fire assessment turns on. We clean it end to end and record the readings.

02 / Airflow

Supply & general vents

Dry supply and extract ductwork silts up with dust and debris until it moves far less air than it should. We clean and inspect it so the ventilation actually performs.

03 / Flammable lint

Dryer & laundry ducts

Lint packs a laundry or dryer duct faster than anyone expects, and few build-ups catch as readily. We clear and check the run before it turns into an ignition source.

Work we have done around Cardiff

Real jobs, described by sector and area - never by a client's name.

Office block · Cardiff area

A city-centre office air-handling run

At a busy office block in central Cardiff, the air-handling ductwork over the open-plan floors had silted with dust and lost draw. We brushed and vacuumed the branch runs, cleared and reseated the diffusers, and renewed the tired panel filters, so the ventilation came back across the floors and the paperwork reflected the whole system.

City Road restaurant · Roath, Cardiff

A Roath grease riser

At a restaurant on City Road in Roath, a heavy-frying kitchen ran its grease extract up a long concealed riser to a rooftop fan, access reaching only the first length. We cut compliant hatches into the boxed sections, cleaned the full run from canopy to fan back to bare metal, and logged grease-depth readings before and after. The system came back clean and certified, with a photo record for the fire file.

Compliance, insurance and fire risk

The building. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to control fire risk, and concealed grease is where a kitchen fire spreads fastest and least visibly.

The claim. Insurers expect a current certificate; a fire claim on a neglected system can be cut or refused - a costly surprise after a loss.

The day-to-day. A clean run pulls better, smells better and stands up when the environmental health officer visits.

In and around Cardiff

Cardiff Castle stands at the head of the city centre, a Roman fort and Norman keep wrapped in a Victorian Gothic fantasy by the Bute family, whose coal-exporting docks once made Cardiff the busiest port on earth. Those docks are Cardiff Bay now, a waterfront of restaurants whose kitchens cook flat out, and the grease their extract carries banks unseen in the concealed run. We work around service so a Cardiff kitchen is cleaned, certified and back in action without losing covers.

Duct cleaning questions

Do you cover Cardiff?

Yes. We work throughout Cardiff and the wider South Wales, including Cardiff Bay and the Hayes to City Road, St Mary Street and the Leckwith trade parks. Call 07961 915018 or use the contact form and we will confirm and quote.

Do you clean the whole run or just the canopy?

The whole run - from the canopy through the concealed horizontal and vertical ductwork to the roof fan. The hidden sections are exactly where the grease and the fire risk sit.

What if our ductwork has no access panels?

We fit compliant access panels where the run is sealed or boxed in, so every internal section can be reached, cleaned, inspected and certified.

How often should ductwork be cleaned?

It depends on use. TR19 Grease sets kitchen extract frequency by daily cooking hours - roughly every three months for heavy use, six for moderate and twelve for light - and we set your interval and next-due date on the survey.

Do you clean dry ventilation and laundry ducts too?

Yes. Dry supply and extract ductwork clogs with dust and can spread contamination, and laundry and dryer ducting packs with highly flammable lint. We clean and certify all three.

Can you work around our opening hours?

Yes. We work overnight, early mornings, weekends and closing days to keep your kitchen or site running.

20+ years of experience

We have cleaned and certified commercial ductwork since 2001, the length of the South Wales coast and across the UK. Whatever the run - a grease riser, a dry office system or a care-home laundry duct - the work ends the same way: bare metal, a photo record and a certificate that stands up to a fire risk assessment.
