At a vehicle bodyshop on the Hollingbury estate, the spray booth and prep-bay extraction carried the paint mist and solvent vapour off the work, and the booth's downdraught had softened. We measured booth velocity and prep-bay capture, checked the filters and the make-up air, and reported what needed replacing so the booth held its spec on a re-test.
At a Brighton joinery the dust extraction served several machines off one system, and the run to the furthest machine had lost transport velocity. We measured at each hood, checked the ducting and the discharge, and reported exactly which take-off fell short and why - so it could be put right and re-tested rather than left to silt up.

The point of a thorough examination and test is to prove the extraction still controls the exposure - so we measure it, we do not eyeball it. Condition, capture and face velocities, transport velocity and static pressure are checked against the design intent under HSG258, and the result is written up and labelled on the plant.
We test to the HSE's guidance, HSG258, and the job ends in a report and a label on the plant: what was measured, what passed, what needs putting right, and the date the next test falls due.
We inspect the system's condition - hoods, ducting, filter and fan - and identify how it is meant to control each process.
