At a metal-finishing and electroplating shop on Delamare Road near Cheshunt, pickling and plating components in open tanks, the lip extraction over the acid and plating baths had lost capture and acid and plating mist was rising off the tanks into the shop. We measured capture at each tank lip and the run-off, checked the ducting and the scrubber, and found a fan below duty and blocked slots dragging the run. We set out the remedial action, and re-tested to confirm the control before certifying.
