At an art-bronze and iron foundry on the Marston estate near Frome, melting metal and knocking out sand moulds, the extraction over the furnace, the knockout and the fettling bay had lost capture and metal fume and silica-bearing sand dust were hanging across the shop. We measured capture at the furnace, the knockout and the fettling bay, checked the ducting and the filter, and found a fan below duty dragging the run. We set out the remedial action, and re-tested to confirm the control before certifying.
