At a brewery on the Mead Lane estate near Hertford, fermenting the wort and cleaning vessels in caustic, the fermentation-room and cellar ventilation and the extraction over the cask-wash had lost their margin and carbon dioxide was reading high in the cellar while caustic vapour built at the wash. We measured the fermentation-room and cellar air and the cask-wash capture, checked the ducting and the fans, and found the cellar ventilation below duty and a weak wash extract. We set out the remedial action, and re-tested to confirm the control before certifying.
At an engineering unit on the Foxholes area near Hertford, the weld-fume arms and mist extraction over the machining had lost capture and the shop was hazing by mid-shift.
