At a veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Southampton, the fume-cupboard and safety-cabinet extraction over the pathology bench had dropped off at two points, fixative fume and aerosol reaching the analysts. We ran face-velocity and containment tests across the cupboards and cabinets, checked the ducting and discharge, and set out which point fell short and why, re-testing to confirm the control before certifying.
